About Mudassar Iqbal Butt

Mudassar Iqbal Butt is a towering personality in the struggle for the Punjabi cause. He is the Chairman of the Punjabi Union and the head of the country’s largest Punjabi media conglomerate. He is also one of the trailblazers of the Punjabi movement. In the past five decades, he utilized every platform to promote the Punjabi cause. His contribution in Punjabi journalism is enormous, and he is credited as the sole journalist who successfully kept the lights on of Punjabi journalism in one of the most challenging environments with the daily Bhulekha. Under his meticulous editorship, the daily Bhalekha has been in publication without interruption for over 38 years. This achievement is widely acknowledged as it played a pivotal role in keeping Punjabi journalism alive in West Punjab. His media house publishes acclaimed literary magazine "Naag Mani" too, which was launched in West Punjab at the special request of legendary writer Amrita Pritam. Fashion magazine "Sonia" also enjoys notable significance in the regional fashion industry.
Mudassar Iqbal Butt is a forceful voice in the literary world. He is an accomplished poet, story writer, and an authoritative figure in literary research and criticism. Through his publication wing, the Baba Farid Book Foundation, he has brought into edition hundreds of Punjabi books. This foundation is unique as it is the only Punjabi publishing house that offers an opportunity to Punjabi authors to get him acknowledged through free publication.
His passion to promote amity among Punjabis scattered around the globe is being demonstrated through ‘Punjab House’, a dedicated center which offers every Punjabi forum (literary, political or social) to arrange programs free of charge and the Punjabi Union proudly assumes full responsibility for the hospitality (sewa), catering, and other arrangements for every single event.
Mudassar Iqbal Butt is a committed activist of religious and cultural harmony. He has named the main auditorium of Punjab House after the great spiritual leader, Baba Guru Nanak. The institution houses specialized research centers named after prolific literary figures like Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Amrita Pritam. The focus of these centers is research on modern Punjabi literature, culture, music, and folk traditions. As a main leader of the Punjabi movements, he has fought a long battle for his language and culture. He is invariably seen in the front line of every movement—from the annual celebration of Punjabi Culture Day to the struggle for the rights of Punjab. One keystone of his achievements is the Punjabi Conference, a platform designed to unify Punjabis globally. He launched this initiative with Fakhar Zaman and is aimed at bringing together Punjabis from East and West. Organizing such a major conference in Manchester in 2025 is likely to serve as a powerful declaration of eternal passion that one's language cannot come to an end by temporal means.
